How to choose the pigment of colored asphalt?

Jan 17, 2021

1. Inorganic pigments. Inorganic pigments are oxides of non-ferrous metals, or some metal insoluble metal salts. The main components are inorganic pigments, and almost all inorganic pigments are compounds. Their heat resistance, light resistance and hiding power are better than organic ones. The pigments are good, there are several main types of inorganic pigments to choose from:

(1) Metal oxides: such as titanium dioxide, chromium trioxide, iron oxide, etc.; (2) Metal sulfides: such as cadmium yellow, cadmium red, iron sulfide, etc.; (3) Chromates: such as chrome yellow, chromium Orange, etc.; (4) Silicates: such as ultramarine.

2. Organic pigments. Organic pigments refer to a class of pigments made of organic compounds with color and other characteristics of a series of pigments; they have the advantages of low relative density, bright color and complete chromatogram. Generally, organic pigments are more expensive than inorganic pigments. When using color binders, the choice of pigments should be based on cost and performance. Both organic pigments and inorganic pigments can be used. Organic pigments are mainly available in the following categories:

(1) Azo pigments: such as Hansa yellow, permanent yellow, pigment yellow, etc.; (2) Phthalocyanine pigments: such as phthalocyanine blue, phthalocyanine green, etc.; (3) Heterocyclic pigments: such as phthalocyanine violet, permanent yellow, etc. Solid purple and so on.

The above is what I want to share with you today, and when choosing a pigment for colored asphalt, in addition to choosing according to hue, saturation, and lightness, it must also consider its coloring power, hiding power, migration resistance, weather resistance, and durability. Abrasiveness and interaction with polymers or additives; such selection of pigments is not only dazzling, but also non-fading and durable.
